Paper-cut animation “Chinese New Year”
February 12 is Chinese New Year, the day we ring in the Year of the Ox. This traditional Chinese holiday is characterized by great festivities, customs and family reunion.
The animated video “Chinese New Year” stunningly visualizes these typical Spring Festival activities. We get to see the story of Nian (Year Monster) and the origin of some Chinese New Year customs.
The short film draws on shadow puppetry and the folk art of paper-cutting, especially inspired by FU Zhao’e, a nationally renowned paper-cut artist. It innovatively integrates paper-cut art with two-dimensional animation to showcase the rich cultural background and folk charms of the Spring Festival. A feast for the eyes!
