Synopsis
After successive poor harvests in 1940 and 1941, the people in China’s Henan Province had exhausted all their stored up grains. At the time, the Second Sino-Japanese war inflicted heavy damage on the country and part of its territory fell under Japanese occupation. To make things worse, a serious drought hit China in 1942, and the only food resources were taken away by the authorities to feed the army troops and their horses. American political journalist Theodore H. (Adrien Brody) published a report about the famine in Time magazine, alerting the world about the unimaginable tragedy, in which millions of people are starved to death.
