Synopsis

Invented more than 2,500 years ago, “Weiqi” (围棋), better known by its Japanese name “Go”, was considered one of the four essential arts to be mastered by a Chinese scholar, along with calligraphy, painting and music. The objective of Weiqi which literally means “encirclement chess” is to surround a larger total area of the board with one’s stones than the opponent by the end of the game. Weiqi is all about about patience, balance and analysis. This single board game embodies ancient Chinese philosophy and military strategy and can even reflect the modern way Chinese people do business.

The fascinating art form of shadow puppetry has a history of more than 2,000 years in China. Held by a few bamboo sticks, finely carved puppets come to life thanks to the dexterity of their master and can embody a large range of characters and personalities. Once a major entertainment form for Chinese people, this ancient art is now coming out from behind the curtain and taking central stage.
